Charcoal shapes to paper sculptures
I really enjoyed experimenting with charcoal. I had only seen it used by street artists in Italy to draw caricatures. By using a rectangular shaped charcoal, I was able to create shapes simply through the movement of my wrist. I then developed this further by creating a paper sculpture of one of the shapes. OMBRE
I decided to move out of my comfort zone, and attempted to draw human subjects instead of objects and buildings.
This allowed me to focus on shading to give ‘fullness’ to the clothes and face contours. Darker lines provided focus and provided definition. Click here
As I looked through my designs i realised that colour was consistently absent. I think that the reason for this is my need to have everything clean and balanced. In my opinion colour adds chaos. So as with a science experiment I created a controlled environment i.e. buildings or graphic designs. Click here
